Someday I Will Get Better at Posting…

Time is flying past me and you’ll note from the pictures that Piper is growing like a little weed! At her four month appointment, the doc put her in the 75th percentile in height, weight and head circumference. She is babbling, screeching, smiling, giggling and outright laughing these days, and it is a joy to spend time with her. I have been a total sleep nazi about napping and bedtime, and the hard work–combined with God’s mercy on us and her maturing sleep patterns–has paid off. Our once cranky, colicky, touchy little Biscuit is now usually a happy, smiling baby who sleeps between 15-18 hours a day with a bedtime of 5:30 pm and a wake up time of 5:30 or 6:00 am. I would certainly love for her to start sleeping in to 7:00 or so, but she wakes up at 5:30 or 6:00 am whether I put her to bed at 5:00 pm or at 7:00 pm. Ah, well. At least she’s getting good sleep these days!
David spends time with Piper in the mornings and then is able to come home for lunch nearly every day, so he still has plenty of time with her in spite of the early bedtime. The Pipsqueak and I like to pop over to dCables to see him on the days when he can’t come home for lunch, too. What a blessing that he is so close to work and has such flexibility in his schedule! We are both really humbled by and thankful for that.
The early bedtime also affords David and I some good quality time together in the evenings, which is great! At our counselor’s prompting (Ken Quinn at CBC Counseling–go, Ken! We love you!), David has begun reading to me every night the book Sabbath by Dan Allender. We are only 20 or so pages into it but have really enjoyed the idea of setting aside one day a week for joy, delight and refreshment. There is talk in the Peters Household of incorporating that into our week–both for our sake and to teach Piper the importance of rest and taking care of oneself. Neither of us are very good at those things but would certainly like to get better. We both knew that God commands us to keep the Sabbath holy, but never thought about God viewing it as important for His people as not killing and not committing adultery. I also narrowly viewed the commandment to mean “attending church”, but Allender gives us a much bigger and more beautiful picture of what keeping the Sabbath means. Definitely a must-read.
The Biscuit has recently started eating rice cereal once a day and has really gotten good at eating from a spoon. She makes me laugh so hard! She also drank about a thimbleful of water from a glass yesterday–first time drinking from a cup! It has been so fun to watch her grow and learn new things.
